LHQ DanceForce Receives Special Awards At Sophisticated Productions Dance Competition

LHQ DanceForce recently competed in the Sophisticated Productions Dance Competition receiving several special and overall awards.

The regional competition held in Woonsocket, Rhode Island drew 13 studios throughout eastern and western Massachusetts, Connectic¬ut, and Rhode Island. 48 dancers from the LHQ DanceForce Competition Team performed group and solo jazz, lyrical, tap, and hip hop routines.

Six group numbers received special awards. Epic received the "Drama Precision" award and Hawaiian Adventure received the "Sensory Overload" award. Soloist Nina Bruno received the "Awesome Animation" special award, soloist Mary Root received the "Total Package" award, soloist Vinny Panuccio received the “Strength and Artistry” award, and soloist Caitlin Goodale received the “Light As A Feather” award.

The Overall 11-12 year old Line/Production award was presented to the group Hawaiian Adventure, Mariah Smith took home the 1st overall soloist in the 15-16 Jazz category, Jen Root won overall soloist in the 15-16 Jazz category, Sierra Moccio won 1st Runner Up Overall in the 7-8 year old soloists, and Kayla Stevens brought home the 2nd overall soloist award in the 17-18 Jazz category.

Nominated to the Performance Team at Nationals are soloists Haley Laudato, Mary Root, Nina Bruno, Vinny Panuccio, Caitlin Goodale and groups The Boyz, Angels, Epic, Tourists, Girls Unity, Love, Bombs Away, Hawaiian Adventure.


LHQ DanceForce Receives Special Awards At Dance Ovations Dance Competition

LHQ DanceForce recently competed in the Dance Ovations Dance Competition receiving several special and overall awards.

The regional competition held in Fitchburg, Massachusetts drew approximately 400 dancers from 13 studios throughout eastern and western Massachusetts and Connecticut. 48 dancers from the LHQ DanceForce Competition Team performed group and solo jazz, lyrical, tap, and hip hop routines.

Four group numbers received special awards. Pearl Harbor received the "Poetry in Motion with Pristine Partnering" award, Hawaiian Hibiscus received the "Elegant, Beautiful ~ A breath of Fresh Air!" award, Hawaiian Adventure received the "Totally Terrific & Awesome!" award, and L.O.V.E. received the "Great Timing, Your Totally Terrific!" award. Soloist Miranda Harpin received the "Queen of Cool" special award and soloist Sierra Moccio received the "Punch Packing Peanut with Potential" special award.

The Little Ones Overall Lyrical award was presented to the group Angels and Nina Bruno took home the overall award for Teen Jazz Soloist.

The dancers were well-prepared for this competition, practicing 5-7 days a week. The next goal is the Sophisticated Dance Productions Competition in Woonsocket, Rhode Island on March 22-23.




LHQ DanceForce Students Attend Mary Poppins & Receive Backstage Tour!

LHQ Danceforce Students recently attended the hit musical Mary Poppins at The Bushnell, Connecticut’s premier performing arts center.

The students and teachers enjoyed the musical which is based on P.L. Travers' stories and the classic 1964 Walt Disney film. The show includes the Academy Award-winning music and lyrics of Richard M. Sherman and Robert B. Sherman.

Following the performance, the LHQ students and faculty were thrilled to take a backstage tour given by one of the show’s dance captains.


Concluding the weekend, students attended a master class at LHQ DanceForce’s new studio in Agawam, Massachusetts. Elizabeth Earley, a member of the Mary Poppins cast, taught a routine from Supercalifragilisticexpialidocious – the famous musical theatre number from the show. Miss Earley’s extensive training as a dance captain and teacher provided the LHQ students a true Broadway musical theater experience.

LHQ student, Giana Mullins, was picked as LHQ DanceForce’s Student of the Day, for her outstanding participation in class and being the Broadway Bound Star.


LHQ DanceForce Volunteers At Camp Sunshine

Students and staff of LHQ Danceforce rounded out their summer vacations by volunteering at Camp Sunshine in Casco, Maine, August 26-30. Camp Sunshine supports children with life threatening illnesses and their families.

LHQ student Jenn Root is grateful for the opportunity to participate in such an amazing program. "To have had the privilege to work with these wonderful children was life changing. Thank you LHQ for making it possible."

LHQ staff Brenda Hadden and Connie Fink were equally touched by their experience. “Taking the LHQ Danceforce Students to Camp Sunshine this year was a new and exciting opportunity for us and them. It was so rewarding to see how much the students gave so much love and support to children and families they had just met. Each and every one gave their whole heart to each person they met and we know they will hold a special place in their hearts to the families at Camp Sunshine."

Returning home with life-lasting memories, student Hayley Burbank said, "Volunteering at Camp Sunshine was the most unique and life changing opportunity I've experienced.” Amanda Lafayette insists she’ll return to camp, commenting "being able to have that experience and create all those memories is the best feeling in the world. I look forward to volunteering every year."

Camp Sunshine has the distinction of being the only program in the nation whose mission is to address the impact of a life threatening illness on every member of the immediate family—the ill child, the parents, and the siblings. Since its inception, Camp Sunshine has provided a haven for over 30,000 individuals from diverse cultural backgrounds.

LHQ Enhances Business at Renowned Conference in Las Vegas

In order to provide superior dance instruction and choreography to her aspiring dance students, Lynn Hadden-Quinn of LHQ DanceForce and Wellness Studio recently attended the established conference Dance Teacher Web Live. Lynn brought back to her dance studio teaching techniques, choreography inspiration, and expertise from many master dance instructors including ballet company directors and Dancing with the Stars choreographers! Lynn, who has been a VIP member of the Dance Teacher Web since its inception, also provides coaching with the conference’s producer, and feels incredibly honored to work alongside such talented teachers, choreographers, and studio owners.

Lynn encourages all of her staff to continue learning more about the art of dance, choreography, and teaching in order to provide the very best for the students of LHQ DanceForce and Wellness Studio. Lynn’s sister and LHQ’s office manager, Karen Lafleur, also attended the conference and brings back the latest advances in customer service and management. As a dancer and teacher, Karen hones her skills by taking full advantage of the superior dance classes offered.

LHQ DanceForce Dancers Win Big at National Competition

Over 50 dance students from LHQ DanceForce and Wellness traveled to New Jersey earlier this month to receive major recognition at a National Competition held in Wildwood,NJ. The dancers practiced long and hard all season to present top-notch group and solo dances. Their hard work certainly paid off as they received awards and recognition throughout the competition!

The dancers came home with a number of awards including titles such as; “Outstanding Line/ Production Choreography” and many of the groups placed in the top ten overall in a number of age categories. One of the group routines, “Bellhop Boys,” was given a special award for “Tons of Potential.” One judge even noted that she would see them soon on “America’s Best Dance Crew!” One of the brightest highlights of the weekend occurred when young dancer Mary Root won second place in her age group and received a scholarship for the performance of her solo (see photo).

The LHQ DanceForce staff is incredibly proud of their students’ dedication and achievement and look forward to another great season beginning in September.

LHQ DanceForce Teachers and Staff Receive CPR Certification

LHQ DanceForce and Wellness Studio hosted a CPR/AED certification class right in their studio earlier this month. Trainer Tara L. Fleming guided the LHQ staff through all of the objectives and skills evaluations, which all of the staff completed successfully! All training was in accordance with the curriculum of the American Heart Association Heartsaver Child CPR/AED Program.

Hosting a CPR certification for their teachers demonstrates LHQ’s commitment to creating a safe and caring environment for their students. One of few dance studios that employ CPR certified staff; LHQ provides a unique level of safety to dancers so their parents can feel at ease sending them to the studio.

Local Dancers Perform at the Lions Club Festival

A group of young dancers shared their love of dance with the Agawam community when they performed in the Lions Club Festival on June 3rd. The students of LHQ DanceForce put their hours of rehearsal and hard work to use, lighting up Agawam School Street Park with a variety of spirited performances. Sporting beautiful costumes and big smiles, the dancers performed dances spanning different genres and showing versatile talent. Any observer is sure to say they saw nothing but true passion for dance.

The Lions Club Festival is just one way LHQ DanceForce promotes awareness for dance and arts in our area. The dance studio, with a brand new location in Coopers Common, is proud to perform throughout Agawam to spread the joy of dance to the entire community.

LHQ DanceForce Collects Praise at Ovations Regional Dance Competition

Spring was a super season for LHQ DanceForce! At the Ovations Regional Dance Competition, held over the weekend of March 24-25, LHQ DanceForce’s “Monsters” dance received much praise and the coveted Judge’s Choice Award.

The dancers were thrilled to hear that all of their hard work had paid off, receiving comments such as “full commitment to movement and character” and “you swept us all away to an unforgettable place.” The dancers’ incredible commitment and execution plus “fantastic costuming, make-up, and hair” and “great choreography,” made for a stellar performance worthy of the “Judge’s Choice” title.
